Coach Shannon Currier Announced as Talent Scout for 2026 All State Game

By Simon Clements ASG Minneapolis Football

In 2025, Coach Shannon Currier marks his 19th season in football, bringing a wealth of experience to his new role as a Talent Scout for ASG Minneapolis Football. With a career record of 76-122 as a Division II head coach, Currier's deep understanding of the game is undisputed. His storied tenure at Concordia University, St. Paul, which includes a 56-87 record over 11 years, saw him set the program’s all-time wins record in 2018. Notably, Currier coached Chris Garrett, a 2021 NFL Draft pick selected by the Los Angeles Rams, solidifying his reputation for developing top-tier talent.

Currier's career is punctuated with accolades, including being named NSIC Coach of the Year in 2003 after leading Concordia to a conference championship. That same year, he also received an honorable mention as the Midwest Region Coach of the Year. Under his leadership, the Golden Bears achieved their most successful four-year stretch with at least seven wins per season, a feat unmatched since the program's inception in 1969.

Beyond his coaching acumen, Currier's tenure at Truman State University further showcased his ability to build competitive teams, highlighted by consecutive winning seasons in 2006 and 2007. His impact on the field is complemented by his academic background, holding a BA in physical education from Hamline University and an MS in health, physical education, and recreation from Bemidji State.

Transitioning to his role as a Talent Scout, Coach Currier will identify and nominate exceptional young athletes in the sixth to eighth grades. He will play a crucial role in ensuring that talent from underrepresented areas is recognized and celebrated, fighting against the "geography of obscurity" that too often limits opportunities. As part of the selection committee, Currier will help cut through the hype, focusing on athletes whose skills truly merit the spotlight at the All State Game. His vast connections within the Minnesota football community position him perfectly to elevate the next generation of players, potentially progressing from Talent Scout to Community Champion or Regional Director.
